The RYA theory course deals with sailing as a whole rather than specific
Motor orientated issues. So we have modified the content to offer extended
sections on trim and boat balance along with parts of a boat relating
to the Motor Cruiser.
However, there is a great deal of content, as specified by the RYA, that
covers everything from Chartwork to how sails work that you need to know
in order to obtain your Day Skipper Theory certificate.
The Powerboat II course is only a practical course and deals
in depth with all the issues required to learn how to use a Powerboat
or RIB, including topics on:
- Launch, recovery and trailering
- Boat handling, wind and currents
- Securing to a buoy and anchoring
- Coming alongside and leaving
- Man over board
- Disabled craft and towing
- Types and parts of craft
- Engines, drives and controls
- Ancillary and safety equipment

More details:
The content covers the RYA Day Skipper theory course and the Powerboat
II practical course. The Day Skipper theory course is a combined
course in that it is designed for both the Motor
and the Sail student and as such covers a broad range of topics.

What they say about the Interactive Series:

"We recommend these CDs for interactive learning...overall this
is one of the best we’ve seen" Sailing Today
“If you want to learn the ropes as a beginner or with an
RYA course, it's ideal...it makes learning fun and interesting”
Yachting Monthly
“The CD is user friendly, with clear and concise text...quizzes
test how much you have learned” Practical Boat Owner
"It really is a fantastic piece of software that is a must
for anyone who wants to get into sailing" .TV buyers
guide
"A delightful interactive program that will be of benefit to would
be sailors young and old. It takes each subject in turn and produces a
simple and easy to understand explanation. It will make a superb training
aid for those about to embark on the basic RYA dinghy sailing course.
It will also benefit those already on the course with its uncomplicated
explanation on tides and weather patterns etc. A very good interactive
instructional package with first class graphics". Review,
Sea Cadets, Bill Woodfield
"This has full, up-to-date and well-presented coverage of the syllabus,
including new areas in GPS and chartplotter usage. There is an extensive
use of mnemonics and other prompts to help memorise information. Dave
found the COLREGs section particularly good, starting with a video, which
covers all the basics, backed up with clear animation and flashcards.
The quiz features helpful 'explain' buttons for wrongly answered questions."
"Emma used this software as a revision aid while doing her Day Skipper
shorebased course earlier this year, and fully recommends it. The CD covers
the entire course syllabus, and she found the videos particularly useful,
explaining manoeuvres which she had struggled to understand with textbooks.
The quiz gave her a good indication of how close she was to passing her
exams. Simon liked the commentary accompanying some of and found the animation
clear and well presented". 4 Stars, Yachting Monthly
2004
What customers say about the Interactive Series:
Last year I purchased your Competent Crew and Day Skipper
CD's, having some "point and go" lake sailing experience, but
no navigational understanding whatsoever.
I registered on an evening class to build up to the RYA exam and I am
pleased to say that I have found both CD's to
be absolutely brilliant in supporting the course and ideal for clarifying
many issues which I struggled with in the class room. I can unreservedly
recommend both CD's to anyone, the visual impact and logical progression
is a massive aide to learning, understanding and remembering the many
aspects involved.
Hopefully I will pass the RYA Theory Day Skipper Certificate and then
take the Practical during the summer.
I am now looking at VHF certificate and YachtMaster Coastal theory courses...Steve
Lennie, UK
PS. My two young children have also "played"
with the CD's and as a result have developed in both their understanding
and interest in the theory side of sailing....a good omen for the future!
